Upcoming shows
(at the Cantina Sound Workshop)
Both Daniel Neihoff and Tom Meny are Kerrville Folk Festival Grassy Hill New Folk Winners that I worked with during their new folk tours.
Daniel Neihoff has been through the area several times since he was a 2019 New Folk winner playing shows fairly regularly. He has been a finalist or winner in multiple songwriter competitions. Daniel was born in Texas, but grew up in a family of songwriters in Kentucky and has been writing songs since he was 8 years old. By the age of 20, he was playing at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville with his smooth and soulful sound.
Tom Meny was a 2015 New Folk winner that actually played a short set for my retirement party towards the end of the pandemic. I have been trying to get him back to the Cantina Sound Workshop ever since then as a house concert performer. He, too is an award winning songwriter, recently playing shows with Ray Prim. Watch a recent interview and performance of Tom.
The requested minimum donation is $30 per person at the door. All donations go directly to the artists.
Our annual Barbara Nesbitt show. For the first 3 years of hosting regular house concerts here at Cantina Sound House Concerts, we have had Barbara Nesbitt perform around my birthday. 2025 will not be an exception.
At the previous 2 shows, Barbara has played many new songs that had not yet been recorded. That is changing, Barbara is currently (February 2025) finishing recording of her 6th solo CD, "Lucky Street" and it should be out before this show. Barbara has 4 CDs of music available on her website (one is no longer available through her): "Someday, Maybe Sooner" (2020), "Right As Rain" (2017), "Almost Home" (2013), "A Million Stories" (2007). Her fifth CD is "The Bees" (2010) and she has a CD out as one-half of "The Whiskey Sisters" (2013).
“With a voice that is clear as a mountain meadow and emotive as Patsy Cline, Barbara Nesbitt sings songs of life's journeys with fire grace and country soul” - Ray Benson, Asleep At The Wheel

It has been a major oversight to not have had Walt Wilkins appear at Cantina Sound House Concerts, not for lack of want, but from the abundance of artists that have already performed here at the Cantina Sound House Concerts.
Walt has been performing as a full time musician for over 25 years, touring Texas, the US, and Europe. He has performed at too many festivals to list, on his own, with the band The Mighty Mystiqueros, with his wife (Tina Wilkins), and as part of the Red River Songwriters. He has had over 100 songs recorded by other artists.

Monte Warden first came to people's attention as part of the Wagoneers, a rockabilly roots band known for honky tonk and blue-eyed soul ballads. He really became known when George Strait recorded the song he cowrote with Bruce Robison, Desperately. He is also know for his song Just to hear Your Voice (recorded by Toni Price). His songs have also been recorded by Kelly Willis, Patty Loveless, George Jones, Josh Turner, Bruce Robison, Carrie Underwood, Josh Abbot and Jamie Lin Wilson, Lonesome River Band, Wonder Women of Country, and Travis Tritt. Wonder Women of Country just performed his song Another Broken Heart both nights at Sycamore Creek Concerts in January.
He is a two-time member of the Texas Music Hall of Fame, once with the Wagoneers and as a solo artist.
His latest project, "Monte Warden and the Dangerous Few" have recorded 2 albums (CD and vinyl) that have been well received, Monte Warden and the Dangerous Few and JackPot!
Every time we have seen Monte perform, the audience always leaves in a good mood after having such a great time.
We have had to update the date so that Monte can appear at the Grand Old Opry on August 16.

Wes Collins is another Kerrville Folk Festival Grassy Hill New Folk Winner (2015). Last fall, Wes headlined the second night of the 2024 New Folk/Old Folk Festival in Fischer, Texas (Cantina Sound provided the sound for this festival). He has been getting better every time I have seen him. He has been touring, honing his craft, from coast to coast.
“His skill with the guitar makes the most of his imaginative arrangements and nuanced control of cadence and phrasing, underscoring the subtlety and bite of his lyrics. He credits many other singer/songwriters in his musical tent as inspiration, including Neil Finn, Gillian Welch, Bruce Cockburn, and Patty Griffin, but Collins is well on his way to establishing his own voice as one we should value.” — North Carolina Arts Council
The New York Times calls Jess Klein “A songwriter with a voice of unblinking tenacity.” She has appeared on Good Morning America and NPR’s All Things Considered and has performed at the Newport, Winnipeg, Falcon Ridge and Philadelphia Folk Festivals as well as Fuji Rock Festival in Japan.
Jess performs with a raw, emotional intensity. Her emotive vocals, and poignant storytelling invite her fans on a journey through themes of love, loss, and resilience.
The Bluegrass Situation hails Jess's work as “one part grassroots social activism, two parts alt-country guitar rock — a combo we can certainly get behind.” Klein's newest album, 2023's When We Rise, harnesses this potent combination with themes of empowerment and the joy of overcoming set to a dynamic and deeply introspective roots-inflected soundtrack.

Michael O'Connor played at Cantina Sound House Concerts back in 2023. This year, he is touring with Jason McIntyre and we have him booked for the end of October. Check out their video together. They have been collaborating for some time in both writing and touring.
Michael O'Connor is a guitarist, singer and songwriter currently living in Washington State, but still spends a lot of time in Texas. For decades he has performed and recorded with musicians including Ray Wylie Hubbard, Slaid Cleaves, Adam Carroll, Susan Gibson, Terri Hendrix, and Jeff Plankenhorn.
We first saw Michael playing with Slaid Cleaves at the Sycamore Creek House Concerts, long before I got involved with Sycamore Creek. Since then we have seen him many times at the Dripping Springs Songwriters Festival, Gruene Hall, Fischer Haus, Sam's Burger Joint, SlimFest in Terlingua, and probably many other places.
"Michael O’Connor is well-acknowledged as a great guitarist, but you should listen to his songs as well. He writes beautifully, authentically and comes by that gritty gravel road of a voice honestly. You’ll not find a forced moment in his work.”
- Rod Picott
Jason McIntyre is a singer-songwriter whose musical journey is as diverse and rich as the landscapes he traverses. Inspired by the timeless sounds of the great rock and roll bands of the 60s and 70s, the famed Texas Troubadours, and the legendary blues artists, McIntyre’s music resonates with a deep understanding of human complexities. His songs carry the echoes of the places he’s been and the people he’s met along the way.
Jason hails from central Pennsylvania, but currently makes Austin his home base. He has released 4 albums, his debut with The Rustlanders, a collaboration with Junior Tutwiler, and 2 albums with LEMONT.
